Description and details
The Meteoric Rise of Las Vegas from a remote Mormon outpost to an international entertainment center with a sprawling metropolitan area of well over a million people was never a sure thing. In its first decades, the town languished, but when Nevada legalized casino gambling in 1931, Las Vegas met its destiny.
There are those who say Bugsy Siegal is the reason Vegas took off but personally I believe the Rat Pack is responsible for the success of Sin City. Elvis Presley played his part when the King played the International. Many people attribute the success of modern Las Vegas to Steve Wynn and Kirk Kerkorian. O.K., going out on a limb here but I am going to state that Vegas would never have become the place it is today were it not for Benny Binion.
